ACA health insurance FAQ

Everything you need to know about Affordable Care Act coverage — costs, subsidies, enrollment, and how we keep your information safe.

Costs & savings

How much does ACA health insurance cost?

Your cost depends on your income, age, household size, and location. Thanks to enhanced subsidies, 4 in 5 enrollees qualify for plans as low as $0 per month. Enter your ZIP code to see your real price in minutes.

Is ProHealthcareJournal really free to use?

Yes — 100% free. Comparing plans and enrolling through our licensed agents never costs you a penny. Agents are paid by the carriers, so your monthly premium is exactly the same as going directly to the insurer.

Who qualifies for a subsidy?

Most people who buy their own coverage and don't have affordable job-based insurance qualify for some financial help. Even middle-income households often save. Visit our Savings page to estimate yours.

Enrollment & eligibility

When can I enroll in a plan?

Open Enrollment runs each fall. Outside that window, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period after a qualifying life event — losing job-based coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby. Enter your ZIP to check your eligibility today.

What counts as a qualifying life event?

Common ones include losing other coverage, moving to a new area, getting married or divorced, having or adopting a child, and certain income or household changes. A licensed agent can confirm whether you qualify.

Can I be denied for a pre-existing condition?

No. Under the ACA, insurers cannot deny you coverage or charge you more because of a pre-existing condition, and there's no medical exam to enroll.

When does my coverage start?

For most enrollments, coverage begins the first day of the following month. Your agent will confirm your exact start date when you enroll.

Coverage & benefits

What does an ACA plan cover?

Every Marketplace plan covers 10 essential health benefits — including doctor visits, emergency care, hospitalization, prescriptions, maternity, mental health, labs, and free preventive care. See our Plans page for the full list.

Can I keep my doctor?

Often, yes. Plans have provider networks, so tell your agent which doctors and prescriptions matter to you and they'll match you to a plan that includes them where possible.

Do you offer dental and vision?

Yes. You can add standalone dental and vision plans alongside your health coverage. Children's dental and vision are already included in ACA plans.

Privacy & security

How is my personal information protected?

We use bank-level 256-bit SSL encryption and follow HIPAA-aligned privacy practices. Your information is used only to find and enroll you in coverage. We never sell your data. Read the details in our Privacy Policy.

Will I get spam calls?

No. We contact you only the way you've consented to, about your coverage. You can opt out any time. See our privacy choices.
